When Greenery Press was founded by Janet Hardy and Jay Wiseman in 1992, our first books were issued in a quick-printed, spiral-bound format, in press runs of five to one hundred copies, and sold in Bay Area erotic boutiques. (You could say that we invented "print-on-demand" years before the term came into common usage.)

Gradually, we raised money from friends to issue a few books in "perfect-bound" ( the kind of paperback books you see in bookstores) editions. By the time we paid back the loans, we were up and running as a micropublisher, distributed by a small-press distributor and available in bookstores nationwide.

Janet took over the reins in the mid-1990s, freeing Jay to work on his speaking and writing. The company was incorporated in 1998 as Greenery Press, Inc. In 2010, it was sold to Aaron Blake Publishing, the publishing arm of our longtime distributor, SCB Distributors of Gardena, CA. Janet continues as Editorial Director for the company, as well as for sister publisher Down There Press.

Over our lifetime, we have published well over 100 books, including our top-sellers The Ethical Slut (licensed to Ten Speed Press in 2009) and SM 101 (still selling thousands of copies annually. Our distribution takes place in Gardena, and our editorial office is located in Eugene, OR.
